Cannabis edibles have become an increasingly popular way for people to consume cannabis for recreational and medical purposes.

Edibles offer a discrete, convenient, and effective way to consume cannabis. However, making edibles can be a bit daunting, especially for those who are new to cannabis cooking.

A kitchen scale is essential for making cannabis-infused edibles. When making edibles, precise measurements are crucial to ensure that you are getting the right amount of THC or CBD.

A scale will help you measure the cannabis flower, cannabis concentrate, and other ingredients accurately

Cannabis

Choosing the right strain of cannabis is critical for making medical edibles. Different strains have different effects, and you need to select the right strain that suits your needs. Indica strains tend to have more relaxing effects, while Sativa strains are more energizing. Hybrid strains offer a balance between the two.

When I do my infusions I usually use 1/2 oz of a hybrid to 1 cup of butter or coconut oil

Decarboxylation Tools

To activate the THC and CBD in cannabis, you need to decarboxylate it. Decarboxylation involves heating the cannabis flower at a specific temperature for a certain amount of time to activate the cannabinoids. The most common decarboxylation tools include an oven, a toaster oven, or a decarboxylation machine.

I highly recommend using a decarboxylation machine like the Ardent Nova. It will help you activate your cannabis at the exact time and temperature you need to create potent edibles.

Your oven isn’t as accurate or consistent at keeping the right temperature needed to decarb as you would think. The best solution for using your oven is a silicone decarb box with an internal thermometer. The sealed silicone box helps keep the smell down and the thermometer helps you accurately keep on an eye on the temperature inside so you don’t over-decarboxylate your cannabis and lose potency.

Sun Flower Lecthin

Sunflower lecithin is commonly used in cannabis infusions to enhance the potency and consistency of the final product. Lecithin is a natural emulsifier that helps to bind fats and oils together, which makes it an ideal ingredient for cannabis infusions.

By adding sunflower lecithin to your cannabis infusion, you can help to emulsify the cannabinoids and ensure they are evenly distributed throughout the carrier oil. This leads to a more consistent potency and effect, making it easier to dose and enjoy the benefits of cannabis.

Okay now that we have all that out of the way let’s talk about 2 ways to do the infusion process

If you aren’t ready to invest in one of these machines there is an alternative way to make your infusions on your stove. Here’s what you’ll need

First, a Double Boiler

A double boiler is essential for making cannabis-infused butter or oil. A double boiler helps to ensure that the cannabis is evenly infused into the butter or oil without overheating it, which could lead to a loss of potency.

2. Cheesecloth or Fine Mesh Strainer or Filter Bags

Once you've infused your butter or oil with cannabis, you need to strain out the plant material. A cheesecloth, fine mesh strainer, or filter bags are essential for this process, as it helps to remove the plant material while retaining the infused butter or oil.

Storage for Infusions

Once you’ve finished the infusion you will either need to use it right away or store it until you’re ready to make your edibles. I suggest getting silicone butter molds if your infusion will cool to be solid or an oil dispenser if your infusion will stay liquid. Both of these products will also help you measure out the exact amount of infusion you will need when you make your edibles.
